September Dinner & Dialogue

Welcome to your new position with the Surrey School District!

My name is Devon Stokes-Bennett and basically, if you are new to the profession, your role or even the community, I am your person! I am the new Mentorship Helping Teacher and my objective is to help support you during these first few years.

The Surrey Teachers’ Association and the Surrey School District have jointly offered a mentorship program for new teachers for many years. This year we are working together to redesign what supporting you looks like and I’d like to very warmly invite you to contribute your thoughts and ideas. What would your ideal mentorship program look like? What supports do you need? What has worked for you in other learning contexts such as university or other districts? What might this look like in a first year of support? A second year of support?

Come join us for a free dinner and open discussion this Monday, September 19th 4pm to 6:30pm at the Resource and Education Centre (REC) in room 304. Meet other new teachers and help form your mentorship program!

The mentorship team will design from what we hear from you and hopefully be able to bring everyone together early October. Please invite other new teachers as well as teachers interested in being mentors or who just want to join the conversation.
